How much can you squeeze into a single day?

You might surprise yourself.

HUC provides accessible and high quality Integrated Urgent Care services to over 3.5 million patients across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Luton, Bedfordshire and Essex.

As one of our NHS 111 Clinical Advisors you will offer expert intervention and advice in response to a wide range of health scenarios. Working from home, you will take calls from patients that have been triaged by the Health Advisor team, quickly assessing their requirements and the level of risk involved. You will then advise on next steps – whether that’s action for the patient to take, or in more serious situations, to engage other health services.

You can expect to encounter a breadth of possible scenarios: from something as simple as a stubbed toe, to serious and complex medical emergencies. No two days will ever be the same and you’ll need to be ready to respond appropriately, whatever presents itself.

You’ll benefit from comprehensive training to prepare you for this role and you’ll need excellent diagnostic skills – listening carefully to callers and asking the right questions to arrive at the right advice.

As an experienced practitioner, you’ll appreciate how important it is to keep a calm head in pressurised situations and that roles such as these will involve working unsocial hours.

You’ll be providing a vital service as an integral part of the NHS family: ensuring callers benefit from expert advice and that they are correctly referred to the support service that’s right for them. That means keeping patients safe and avoiding any unnecessary demands on emergency services.

You may have experience in a similar role or you could be an appropriately qualified clinical professional: such as a Registered Nurse (RGN), currently working at a minimum Band 6 or equivalent level in an acute setting, or a Paramedic – with at least a year’s post qualification on-the-job experience, and an appreciation of call handling and triage roles. If you are a dual qualified Nurse (RGN/RMN, or RGN/RSCN) with a broad range of active nursing experience in an acute setting, we would also love to hear from you.
